FOR HIGH-QUALITY PAPER-BASED PACKAGING

FlexCoat reliably protects selected food and non-food products against oxygen, water vapour and fat-related spoilage. It is particularly suitable for thin, flexible paper structures.

Dispersion curtain coating technology enables precise multi-layer coatings with up to 90 per cent paper content and optimised barrier and sealing properties.

TECHNOLOGY

COATED WITHOUT CONTACT, GENTLY DRIED

FlexCoat papers are produced using the dispersion curtain coating process. In this process, the coating is applied to the paper as an even curtain without coming into contact with it. This allows several coating layers to be precisely coordinated with one another, thereby achieving specific barrier and sealing properties.

A floating dryer enables the coating to be dried slowly and without contact, whilst an integrated re-humidification system further supports the paper’s dimensional stability and counteracts so-called ‘tubing’.

The result: precisely coated papers with optimised barrier and surface properties for demanding packaging applications.

DOCUMENTED RECYCLING PROPERTIES

Measurable circulatory capacity

FlexCoat combines up to 90 per cent paper content with functional barrier and surface properties. For tested product variants, FSC® certification (FSC-C020254) is available for the fibre raw materials used, as well as a CEPI/4evergreen assessment of recyclability. This evidence supports your product assessment and customer documentation.

The information applies to the respective product variant and material structure. The recyclability of the finished packaging also depends on its design, processing and regional recycling systems.

Product features

What FlexCoat does

  • Barrier performance

Excellent barrier properties: oil (MOSH/MOAH, Grease (KIT) 6–12), water vapour (WVTR (23°/50% RH, <1 g/m²/day) and oxygen (OTR 23°/50% RH, <1 g/m²/day).

  • Surface

Tear-resistant front-side coating, 1–5 layers, layer thickness 8 µm–50 µm, raw materials: polyolefin and acrylate dispersions + PVOH, contactless drying, integrated re-humidification to prevent tubing.

  • Printability

Superb print results in offset, gravure, flexo and digital printing for a striking display at the point of sale.

  • Sealability

Seam strength and product protection: Moderate sealing strength.

  • Machine operation

Optimised for existing packaging lines. No major modifications required and a direct drop-in replacement for plastic films with a grammage of 55–120 gsm.

  • Future-proofing

Certified to CEPI4evergreen and FSC® standards. 80–90 per cent paper content; recyclable thanks to a material-efficient coating and clean separation of the coating from the substrate.
